Position Description
SickKids will be developing and implementing machine learning models to improve patient outcomes and deliver individualized precision child health. In this role, you will work with clinicians to identify clinical scenarios for deployment, develop robust machine learning models that are fair and useful, and evaluate deployed models.
Here’s What You’ll Do:
- Contribute to the development of a program centered on machine learning with an initial focus on data from electronic health records
- Design analytical methods to support novel approaches of data and information processing
- Train, develop, and validate machine learning algorithms on hospital data
- Build end-to-end data pipelines for machine learning models with strong quality control checks and bias assessment
- Rapidly prototype models for exploratory analysis and assess project viability
- Generate and test working hypotheses
- Provide technical support for program management and business development activities including proposal writing and customer development
- Own and manage knowledge sharing within a community
- Mentor and train other junior data scientists and machine learning specialists
- Develop and support training and development opportunities for SickKids staff who want more opportunities to use machine learning.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- Previous work experience as a Machine Learning/Data Scientist a minimum of 3-5 years
- Experience developing and implementing algorithms for the processing of large datasets.
- Background in computer science, engineering or a related field with a strong understanding of statistics and scientific research
- Excellent project and time management skills and a strong attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across a large institution
- Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
- Excellent writing skills to help with development of grants and papers
- Proficiency in SQL, Python and shell scripting
- Ability to work independently and in a diverse team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated creativity and latitude in problem solving, including the ability to prioritize and execute multiple competing tasks
Assets:
- Hands on experience cleaning data and training models for clinical or biomedical data sets
- Knowledge or experience in MLOps
- R
- Knowledge of medicine or biology
- History of publishing papers and contributing to scientific research
