IFC’s Gender and Economic Inclusion Group (GEIG) develops gender strategies and contributes to corporate-wide strategies, produces thought leadership, engages with clients through advisory services, and forges partnerships to strengthen the private sector’s contribution to gender equality. A critical part of GEIG’s mandate includes strategy, mainstreaming efforts, and working with IFC colleagues to build their capacity and understanding of integrating gender considerations in what they do.
GEIG is seeking an Operations Officer to advance IFC’s gender strategy and mainstreaming work in a collaborative team. The position is based at IFC’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. S/he will be a member of the GEIG Strategy team and will report to the GEIG Strategy Lead.
Duties and Accountabilities
As a member of the GEIG Strategy team s/he will support World Bank Group (WBG) and IFC gender strategies and implementation plans, IFC’s gender mainstreaming efforts, and additional team initiatives; all in close collaboration with regional, product/thematic and industry gender experts. Anticipated scope of duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Corporate Gender Strategy development
- Participate and support development of the new WBG Gender Strategy 2024-2030, providing inputs and developing materials including for management. Coordinate alongside World Bank and MIGA colleagues
- Help prepare and facilitate IFC’s Gender Strategy Implementation Plan, drafting and coordinating inputs across regional and industry colleagues
- Support evaluation of current WBG Gender Strategy 2016-2023, providing/drafting inputs and facilitating engagement process across institutional colleagues
- Prepare regular progress updates on WBG Gender Strategy and IFC’s Gender Strategy Implementation Plan to help inform management as/when needed
- Contribute to all corporate gender strategy documents, presentations, management briefs, talking points, or other requested materials
- Provide strategic inputs on gender for IFC’s corporate strategy processes such as the Evolution Roadmap, the Strategy & Business Outlook (SBO), and any other emerging corporate-wide strategies
- Help provide (or coordinate) inputs and responses to IEG’s evaluation reports that are relevant/touch on gender and IFC
- Support MDB Working Group on Gender and other external-facing engagements/partnerships as relevant (e.g. UN Women’s FiCS Coalition, MDB/IFI studies and surveys etc.)
Gender mainstreaming reporting and analysis
- Lead work on the Gender Flag, IFC’s key internal tool for gender mainstreaming in its projects. Serve as Flag anchor to troubleshoot questions, develop materials, support reporting, facilitate trainings and capacity building etc.
- Support work on creating new tools for conducting gender assessments that can be implemented by gender specialists, to improve internal processes and support gender flagging. Collaborate alongside other GEIG and industry gender colleagues
- Manage ex-post review of gender flagged projects to ensure timely monitoring and quality assurance
- Support reporting and overall coordination of gender indicators included in IFC’s Corporate Scorecard (CSC) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Respond to questions, collate information/inputs for corporate reporting purposes etc.
- Prepare regular progress updates and analysis on Gender Flag and CSC/KPI gender indicators to help inform management as/when needed
- Ensure Flag and CSC/KPI gender data is reflected across IFC’s operational dashboards and reports
- Support development of standardized gender indicators that can be used for tracking gender-related results in gender flagged investment projects. Collaborate alongside other GEIG and industry gender colleagues as well as the development impact team
- Liaise with development impact team on key entry points for gender-related impact data in reports, meetings, queries etc. Coordinate with GEIG M&E colleagues
- Work with sector economists on approach for gender in IFC’s anticipated impact measurement and monitoring (AIMM) system, providing review and inputs, building capacity etc.
Other support
- Support onboarding and provide training for new GEIG team members as requested, particularly on Strategy and the Gender Flag.
- Review and comment on external publications/reports as relevant.
- Review additional documents, reports, etc. as relevant or needed.
Additional tasks will be added depending on needs, skills, and interest.
Selection Criteria
- Master’s degree with at least seven years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Solid understanding of the key concepts around gender and private sector development. Familiarity with IFC is a plus.
- Strong track record of providing impactful strategic advice across a wide set of internal stakeholders.
- Experience contributing to internal corporate strategies or mainstreaming new strategies is preferred.
- Demonstrated excellent communications at all levels of the organization, and comfort in engaging senior management.
- Strong analytical, conceptual and strategy capabilities; demonstrated ability to combine the big picture with attention to detail.
- Self-starter with stellar organizational skills and proven ability to support execution of multiple deliverables against often-short timelines.
- Strong stakeholder management and coordination skills, with an interest in building the capacity of others on processes.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, positive and collaborative attitude and proven capacity to build and manage effective relationships, ability to participate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) in English.
- High degree of passion, commitment to development impact and gender equality.
